The foundational workshop for the Damascus Road Antiracism Process.

About the Training

The goal of the training is to build a common understanding of racism and to work toward long-term transformation of institutions in our community. The training is accessible to both individuals and teams that have a desire to dismantle racism within their institution or community. While RoJ has experience in providing faith-based workshops, this particular training in Manhattan will be secular, in order to provide opportunities for people of all faiths or no faith to participate meaningfully.

The antiracism analysis training is a 2½ day training that covers topics including:

  • An exploration of the history of racism and resistance to racism
  • Thinking systemically about communities
  • Racism's intersections with other forms of oppression
  • Colonialism
  • Defining racism
  • Race as a social construct
  • Racism as a systemic reality
  • White privilege
  • Internalization of racial oppression and superiority
  • Racial and cultural identity
  • Institutions and Institutional racism

Teaching methods include facilitator presentations, small and large group discussion, personal reflection exercises, case studies, video, group exercises, and laughter.

You can learn more about the analysis of racism presented in Damascus Road trainings by reading the preface to Set Free, and by viewing the short video to the right.
